BEAUTY
Part of feeling great is claiming your physical beauty and feeling good about how you look and show up in the world. So many beauty products actually contribute to dis-ease by contributing so many chemicals and gunk that our bodies don't want or need. Holistic health isn't about looking like a Barbie doll, but it is about taking care of yourself in every way and taking pride in your appearance.

Dressing Your Truth -- This program is an extension of Energy Profiling. It's a totally mind-blowing concept that your natural energy is a better indicator of the colors and textures that look and feel great on your body than your "coloring", but it really is. I am continually amazed at how accurate this is. A friend even shared with me her experience of seeing identical twin sisters with different energy types totally confirm the validity of the concept. Their hair and skin coloring were identical, but the colors/textures that looked great on one did not look good on the other. My teenage son rolled his eyes over this idea for months, until he had an eye-opening experience (literally). He's the same dominant energy type that I am, so it's been easy for me to help him begin dressing his truth as we would buy new clothes for him. He was basically going along with the idea, but not fully on board until one day when we were attending our annual homeschool family camp. We get t-shirts each year with the theme for that year's camp, and we're asked to all wear them on the second day for a photo of everyone all together in our matching shirts. That year's color was a really bold or bright (not sure which) light blue, not a Type 2 color. I walked in to where he was getting read to walk out the door that morning and got a shock at seeing him in that color, after many months of mostly seeing him in "his" colors. I commented, "Wow, that's sure not a Type 2 color, is it?!" He responded with an emphatic, somewhat disgusted, "No, it's NOT!" I asked if he could tell the difference, not just in how he looked, but how he felt, and he definitely did. When I saw him a little later in the day after the photo, he had changed shirts and I've never seen him in that shirt since! Since then, he's been more interested in learning how to tell which items of clothing are the best for him and he's clearly benefiting from the knowledge. |
Clean Cosmetics Database -- Check out this link and then bookmark it! This database gives you the ability to look up most personal care products to see how the ingredients may be affecting your health. Products are rated on a scale of one to ten for potential health hazards, and all concerns are carefully explained. You can either search for a particular product in the database or build your own report by typing in the ingredients in a product and getting results on that. Healthy products are also suggested. I used this database to check out my favorite face cream from Skin Actives (below). It was really easy to input the ingredients list, because it was right there online and I was able to cut and paste. Super simple!
Everyday Minerals -- I love this brand of clean make-up! It's mineral powder and they have SO many more colors than I've seen in other brands, so you can really get your correct color. They even have free trial sizes available for foundation powders, so it's not expensive to find the perfect color. Their customer service and quick shipping make it really nice to work with them. They frequently come out with new eye shadow and cheek colors, so there's always something new.
Daybreak Lavender Farm -- This company makes the coolest, all-natural soaps and other skin care products. The products last forever, so you can always order with a friend and split them up to try several things. My mom swears by the "Owie-Zowie" for bug bites and burns (and this is really important for her, as she easily gets infections from these). I also like the Remedy Balm, the aromatherapy roll-on, and the micro-dermabrasion kit.
Skin Actives Scientific -- Skin Actives is totally cool! You can either buy ready-made formulas, or make your own! The amount of information given for the ingredients and why they're in each product is exhaustive, so you really know what you're getting. This is NOT a "totally natural" ingredient company. However, you can easily make informed decisions about what you do and don't want in your products and which ones are best for you. The formulations are designed by Dr. Hannah Spivak, who specializes in skin bio-chemistry. There are lots of all-natural actives available, if that's what you're looking for, and complete information on the preservatives used.
