Music
I love music and it's probably because I'm especially sensitive to it. The music listed here is especially helpful for healing and/or inducing specific brain wave patterns for healing, sleep, stress reduction, or even learning and creativity. Brainwave entrainment involves including certain vibrations that match the desired brainwave state you're seeking to achieve, i.e. alpha state for increased learning capability, theta state for increased creativity, or delta state for deep sleep. Music therapy is a great passive modality on its own or to enhance whatever else you're doing at the same time.

The images link to Amazon, while the text links at the end of the descriptions link to the same product at Sounds True. They usually list pretty much the same price, unless Sounds True is running a sale, at which time Sounds True will cost less, often MUCH less. Amazon doesn't always have these in stock, but Sounds True pretty much always does, as this is what they do. So, it pays to check both and see if it makes more sense to take advantage of Amazon's Super Saver Shipping or Sounds True's availability or sale price. Sounds True also offers free shipping, but it's usually for orders over $70 (which isn't too hard to do when they're having a great sale).

Self-Healing with Sound and Music by Dr. Andrew Weil and Kimba Arem is the best place to start, with regard to using music for healing. This is a 2-CD set, including discussion about the value of sound and music for our minds and bodies, as well as a few vocal exercises from Kimba Arem on the first CD. The second CD is pure beauty! Kimba Arem is a talented musician and sound therapist who uses many familiar instruments, as well as several indigenous instruments you may never have heard of. I've heard a dijeridu before, but I was suprised at how relaxing and healing it feels. I love it! This set is a great combination to help you understand what sound does and how to use it, as well as including a full hour of beautiful, relaxing, music. Gaearth Dreaming is another beautiful one-hour CD from Kimba Arem. The CD set includes a CD, as well as a DVD version of the music. It is produced in the same manner as her Self-Healing album. She also includes a booklet with interesting information about the instruments she uses as well as the tuning scale they use. Brainwave entrainment information is also explained. One thing I love about Kimba's music is that she uses only "real" instruments, not synthesizers. Many albums labeled for relaxation and healing use only or mostly electronic keyboards and synthesizers, which I just don't connect with the way I do an acoustic instrument. This is the real thing. She even uses a crystal dijeridu! Click here to link to this product at Sounds True.

Vibrational Sound Healing is more from Kimba Arem, although Dr. Weil's name and photo are prominent on the front. Truly beautiful, I cannot decide which of these three from Kimba Arem is my favorite. I love to use all of them while I'm doing healing work. They are perfect for body work, such as massage, or while you're doing emotional clearing or just wanting to relax or take a nap. You can literally FEEL the music in your body. Both the compositions and the instrumentation are so beautiful, I can't adequately describe it. Did I mention how much I love this music?! Dr. Jeffrey Thompson is a master of understanding and using the power of music and brainwave entrainment. This 6-CD set is a great place to start. Dr. Thompson does use both electronic and acoustic instruments, so I personally do not enjoy them quite as much as Kimba Arem's music, but there is enough acoustic piano in there to keep me happy. The compositions are very lovely and relaxing, also. Each CD contains 2 30-minute compositions engineered for a certain purpose: Relax, Meditate, Sleep, Heal, Create, and Awaken. Information about the benefits is included, as well as instructions for use. Dr. Thompson also have several other CD's available for use with these and other specific desired brainwave states. Steven Halpern is another major composer and performer in the area of relaxation and healing through music. He does use electronic keyboards, which I'm not fond of, but the music is nice and seems to do what it is intended for. I do enjoy it and use it to change things up by alternating with my other favorites, but if you're a fan of electronic keyboards and synthesizers, this one may be your favorite. In addition to the album shown here, Steven Halpern also has many others to choose from. Click here to link to this product at Sounds True.

Merlin's Magic has quite a collection of CD's for relaxation. The reason the titles contain "Reiki" is that they're generally intended for use during Reiki treatments -- in other words, healing and relaxation. I heard this CD while receiving an Ohashiatsu treatment and asked for more information about it, because I enjoyed it so much. It does use electronic keyboards and synthesizers and it has a "new agey" feel to the musical style -- not much in the way of an identifiable melody, very soft, smooth, and relaxing. That's actually supposed to be good, so that you're not anticipating where the music is going to go and can just float along with it. The Ohashiatsu practitioner I was working with told me that practitioners will climb over each other to sign up for massage workshops offering a new Merlin's Magic album as part of the package! Obviously, they're very popular, because anyone can easily order them on their own.
